1. Research and Development:

Started as a private initiative in 1992, Remei India Ltd (formerly bioRe India Ltd) has become a successful enterprise in the production of organic cotton combining economic interests with ethical responsibility. Remei India has been a partner in various research activities since its inception. It is the only organic cotton initiative in India to get prestigious DSIR recognition from government of India for its R&D initiatives. Presently Remei India is the main partner institution in collaboration with bioRe Association in the implementation of three major research programs.

Our Research Partners:  University of Agriculture Sciences Dharwad, Vasanthrao Naik Marathwada Krishi Vidyapeeth, Parbhani & FiBL, Switzerland.

1.1. Non GM Cotton Seed Breeding & Evaluation Under Organic Conditions:

Remei India Ltd has its own non-GM seed (GMS & non-GMS) breeding programme.

Remei India Ltd also participates in the research programme on “Non GM cotton seed breeding and evaluation” with University of Agricultural Sciences Dharwad and bioRe Association. The focus of this research was based on farmers’ requirement for organic cultivation of cotton and suitability to high quality spinning performance.

Remei India also has supporting infrastructure of GMO testing with Digital ELISA lab, Germplasm storage, Ginning and grading of seeds. To ensure GMO free seed production we tests nearly 70,000 individual cotton plants annually at our ELISA lab.

Remei India aims at becoming self-sufficient for its seed needs by 2023. It will also be supplying seeds to other interested organic cotton cultivation projects from 2023 onwards.

Desi Cotton: Remei India Ltd. In collaboration with Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Krishi Vidyapeeth, Parbhani & Biore association is involved in “Development, evaluation and promotion of medium and long staple desi cotton genotypes under organic situation for the state of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, since 2021.

1.2. Long Term Farming System Comparison Trial (SYSCOM)

Remei India collaborates with bioRe Association in implementing the ‘System comparison trails” under the guidance of FIBL, Switzerland since 2007. This is a unique long term research where on the same soil, irrigation and weather conditions for four different farming systems i.e. Organic, Biodynamic, GMO conventional and conventional are being compared.  The objective of these trials is to quantify organic farming’s  yield and yield stability, stability of the agro-ecological system, with emphasis on soil fertility, beneficial organisms and bio diversity, compared to the conventional system. It also aims to knowing natural and economic resources effectiveness (output/input relationship) of the organic system compared to the conventional system.

1.3. Participatory on Farm research (POR)

Remei India through its organic farmers participates in POR trials which are implemented in scientific collaboration with FiBL Switzerland. In these trials efforts are being made to improve existing farming practices and develop some new input for organic cotton farmers with on farm resources. Organic farmers, Remei India's extension team and scientific community works together in these trials.
